Most long-term maintenance medications can be ordered through Express Scripts at a savings. A 90-day supply of a medication, for instance, can be purchased for only two (2) times the retail co-pay of a 30-day supply. (See the chart below for a breakdown of retail versus mail order co-pays by tier.)

You can use Express Scripts mail service by following these three steps:

1. Ask your doctor to prescribe medications for up to a 90-day supply, plus refills when applicable. (If you're already taking medication on a long-term basis, ask your doctor for a new prescription.)

2. Complete the Mail Order Form for each member submitting a prescription.  Be sure to answer all of the questions.

3. Seal the form, prescriptions, and the appropriate co-payment in the BCBS postage-paid envelope included with the Express Scripts brochure. Then, mail it in. Additional brochures can be picked up at the Broad Benefits Office. Be sure to write your BCBS ID number exactly as it appears on your BCBS ID card whenever you send in a prescription.

If you have questions, you can call Express Scripts 24 hours a day toll-free at 1-800-892-5119. Registered pharmacists are available to answer questions and all calls are confident.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts maintains a list of covered prescription drugs. If you have any questions about whether or not your medications are covered, or subject to Quality Care Dosing, Step Therapy, or Prior Authorization, please visit or call the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Member Service number on the front of your ID card.
