Short-Term Disability

The Broad provides all benefits-eligible employees with Short-Term Disability coverage at no charge. This is a salary continuation plan and details about the amount and duration of the benefit can be found in the Benefits and Time Off section of the HR Policy Manual.

Long-Term Disability

Benefits-eligible employees are automatically enrolled in Broad's Long-Term Disability (LTD) Plan, which provides you with 60% of your monthly income if you become ill or injured and are unable to work and the disability extends beyond 180 calendar days. The income is designed to restore part of the earnings lost during a period of disability. All premiums are paid in full by the Broad.

To provide employees with a tax-free benefit, the Broad automatically includes the premium in your income.

Procedure for Obtaining LTD Benefits

It is your responsibility to notify your Supervisor that your disability absence may extend beyond the 26-week duration of Short-Term disability (information about the Broad's Short-Term Disability plan can be found here). In addition, it is your responsibility to contact the plan provider, Cigna, at 1-888-84Cigna(24462) or 1-866-562-8421(Espanol), or visit myCigna.com to initiate a LTD claim. If the employee cannot contact Cigna themselves, a family member, your Supervisor, or Benefits may contact the vendor on your behalf. Cigna will then determine if you meet the qualifications for LTD benefits based on the information and medical evidence furnished by you. Once the claim is approved by Cigna, Cigna will pay the LTD benefit to you.

To ensure continuation of salary while on a leave of absence for Long-Term Disability (LTD) you must meet all disability criteria and have authorization from the plan provider.

Benefits are not payable for disabilities resulting from any of the following:

  • The commission or attempt to commit a felony
