Affinity Groups provide opportunities for Broadies who share common interests to come together in support of advancing great science, networking, and career development. Current groups exist to support administrative professionals, research and technical staff, postdocs and graduate students, the LGBTQ community, project management, people of color, software engineers, professional scientists (bench and computational), women, and more!
 

Accessibility@Broad

Accessibility@Broad is an affinity group with the dual purpose of supporting and advocating for disabled Broadies while also promoting ethical and collaborative work impacting disabled communities outside the Broad. Our mission is fulfilled by advocating for necessary and meaningful accommodations and promoting open discussion about the impacts of the Broad’s work and policies on disability-related issues.

Broad Operations and Support Community (BOSC)

The Broad Operations and Support Community (BOSC) is a group of Administrative Assistants and other administrative professionals who wish to continually enhance their knowledge and share expertise in the area of administrative support.

Agile Academia (AgAc) is an affinity group for anyone interested in learning and sharing how Agile principles have helped teams become more effective. We discuss how Agile development made popular by software teams can be applied to non-software teams.

Alliance Management@Broad

Alliance Management@Broad is an affinity group for alliance managers who ensure that key Broad partnerships proceed to their goals effectively, efficiently, cooperatively, and on time. Our aim is to foster connections between alliance managers to share best practices, learnings, and experience to build community and better facilitate the Broad’s industrial, philanthropic, and academic partnerships.

DataStorage@Broad is an affinity group for Broadies who store and manage scientific data. Our goal is to explore strategies that reduce data storage cost, improve visibility and access to the data footprint, and share data management tips and tricks, skills sets and lessons learned. Genetic Counselors@Broad

The role of the Genetic Counselor Affinity Group (GC@Broad) is to bring together Genetic Counselors (GCs) who are working on Broad-based projects or who are working for Broad Principal Investigators (PIs). The goals of this group are to expand the knowledge of Broad GCs, to educate the Broad community on the role of GCs in clinical research, and to increase accessibility to GCs as a resource for Broad employees.

Out@Broad is an affinity group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) Broadies and their allies. Our mission is to ensure an inclusive, affirming and accepting environment for all members of the LGBTQ community at the Broad Institute, identify challenges to and lead the advancement of members of the LGBTQ community in STEM fields, engage with external organizations to promote equality for LGBTQ people in society, and to collaborate with other Broad affinity groups to promote a genuine, shared culture of diversity and inclusion.

Shades@Broad is an affinity group that seeks to support people of color at Broad by sustaining a culture that is meaningfully diverse and inclusive; engaging all Broadies in working to sustain such a culture; promoting initiatives that leverage the strengths of a diverse workforce and recognize diversity and inclusion as a competitive advantage; and fostering a deeper understanding among all Broadies about racial and ethnic difference. Membership is open to ALL Broadies.

SoftEng is a community for anyone writing software at the Broad. Broad Staff Scientists is an affinity group for all professional scientists who work at the Institute. Our mission is to create lasting initiatives that advance the careers of all staff scientists. You may also be interested in Discussion Groups, hosted by BroadLife, which offer opportunities for people to connect around other shared interests, such as responsibilities of adult caregivers or parents of children with special needs; or Broad's social groups, which offer informal ways to gather around shared interest, hobbies, and passions.
