Introduction

This guide provides detailed information for accessing important IT resources when you are working remotely. While every effort has been made to list critical software, hardware, and IT services, the heterogeneous nature of the Broad workforce makes a fully comprehensive document unfeasible. If you are unsure whether a critical IT component of your job function will be available remotely or are unsure how to access that component remotely, please contact BITS.

You will need to log in with your Broad username and password to access most of the resources on this page.

Quickstart checklist

  • Broad-issued laptop
  • Laptop charger
  • DUO installed and tested
  • VPN installed and tested
  • Headset or headphones (Stop by a BITStop to pick up)

Getting started

The most basic requirements for working remotely are an internet connection and a network capable device: laptop, desktop computer, tablet, smartphone, etc. With these minimum requirements, you will be able to access the full set of G Suite applications including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Meet, Docs, Sheets, etc.

Accessing Broad IT resources

Access to on-premise Broad IT resources will require the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection and Two Factor Authentication via DUO. BITS advises anyone requiring remote access to set up DUO and VPN as soon as possible. VPN should be installed and tested on all devices requiring remote access.

A list of software and services requiring VPN can be found here. Connect to the Broad "guest" wifi network (just "Broad," no "-Internal") to simulate a remote work experience and identify services you use that require a VPN connection.

  • In order to conserve VPN bandwidth for those who need it, please do not connect to the VPN when you are using applications (such as GSuite) that do not require a VPN connection.
  • If you do need VPN access please use the Duo-Split-Tunnel-VPN profile.
  • If you must use Non-Split tunnel please be sure to NOT use any high bandwidth applications, such as streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, etc) and data transfer (scp, gsutil, rsync, etc).

Phone, conference, and fax technology

Phone: If you have a Broad issued phone number you should install the Dialpad app on any device you wish to make or receive a Broad phone call on. You must update your E911 location within the Dialpad application if using this device away from your current Broad E911 location.

Conferencing: Broad uses Zoom for remote and hybrid meetings of any size. Please see broad.io/remotemeetings for more information.

Faxing: Use Xmedius to send faxes from a web browser.
